SpitSim flight controls
The SpitSim is a modular set of full-size flight controls based on those used in the iconic Supermarine Spitfire fighter aircraft, developed in 2004 to use with new Spitfire software. The main criteria were that the controls be as realistic as possible: suitable for use as a conversion training simulator.
An original column and spadegrip, pedals and quadrant were borrowed from a partially rebuilt Mk IX Spitfire, and CAD drawings produced from these. The SpitSim controls were developed from these originals.
Starting with a Column Module mounted on a support frame, the control system can be built up with additional modules. Rudder pedals, Control Quadrant with throttle, propeller pitch and fuel mixture levers, Pitch Trim Module and Landing Gear Module form the rest of the system. There is also a Seat Module for use when the SpitSim is used in open format, as per the demonstrator. The SpitSim can also be supplied in a cockpit section, and/or mounted onto a motion platform, for complete immersion in the experience of flying a Spitfire.
Additional modules are being developed, along with control accessories such as flap lever, landing gear indicator, rocker gun button and rudder trim.
Complete plug-and-go systems can be supplied, with high performance computer and visual systems. All SpitSim Flight Controls are built to order and customised to suit the owners specific requirements. Let us know what you would like to achieve and we will build a Spitfire Simulator to meet your needs.
Declared as “The nearest thing to flying a real Spitfire I have ever experienced” by a former Squadron Leader of the BBMF, you can have years of the Spitfire” flying” experience for less than it costs to fly a real Spitfire for an hour.
